eSIM provider Roamless has introduced a new service — virtual phone number rentals without the need for a physical SIM card. Users can now obtain a dedicated number for international calls and SMS directly through the company’s app.
The system follows a fairly familiar formula: the number stays assigned to the user, incoming calls and texts remain free, while outgoing communication is paid separately through Roamless Credits. The pay-as-you-go model feels like a small throwback to the days before telecom operators tried to bundle “unlimited everything” into every possible plan.
According to the company, users can keep the same number for as long as they want and cancel the subscription at any time. Everything is handled inside the mobile app, which means trips to phone stores and piles of plastic SIM holders are slowly turning into the digital equivalent of collecting DVDs.
Three countries for now
At launch, Roamless is offering virtual numbers from the UK, Canada, and Australia. Users can choose between a monthly subscription priced at $6.95 or an annual plan for $59.95, which lowers the average monthly cost to $4.95.

The company is also leaning into its own ecosystem: calls and messages between Roamless users are free. It is hardly a revolutionary idea, but in the modern app economy it has become almost mandatory — somewhere alongside the “Skip Ad” button that still makes people wait five seconds.
With the addition of virtual numbers, Roamless continues expanding beyond travel eSIM services and into broader international communication tools. The company is no longer just selling mobile data for trips abroad, but something closer to a full digital phone identity — without plastic cards, carrier stores, or the traditional “do you have your passport with you?” routine.
